"lAZARETO ISLA DE CABRAS",

PRESERVATION LAB

2016

The laboratory of architectural conservation includes the analysis and physical study of structures with an important meaning in the history of a country or a place. For this specific laboratory, we worked with a building created on 1860 in the outskirts of the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, originally created as a hospital for patient with cholera. Lazareto rises on a small island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. During this study, it was possible to carry out different studies related of the physical composition of its materials; whether mortars for construction, bricks, among others. Several visits were made to Lazareto on which it was possible to observe the antique construction mechanisms provided by the Spaniards during their government over Puerto Rico.
